Collecting Native Plant Seeds: What you need to know!
Collecting native plant seeds is a great way to increase native plants in your yard and garden. This Seed Collecting Foray will inform us on the ethical ways to collect native plant seeds; how to identify native vs non-native plants & seeds; and how to keep them viable until you plant them.
Collect today, then plant them in our Winter Seed Sowing event in January!
Be on the lookout for our very popular Winter Seed Sowing class in January 2025! Sowing native plant seeds in the winter is the best way to grow native plant for the spring. We will show you how to sow them in "mini home made greenhouses", or sow them directly outside in the snow.
What you need to bring:
Dress for the weather! Wear long pants & long sleeves, and closed toed shoes. Bring large manilla envelopes (purchase at a budget store) or paper sandwich bags (at least 10 each), and permanent markers for labeling. Bring your water bottle too!
Rain Date?
We will reschedule if it has rained too much right before or during the seed collecting. If they are too wet they will mildew. We will email everyone who registers, and post on the NCEC Facebook Events page and through NCEC E-news, if we need to cancel on November 16 & reschedule.
